Comdata is introducing a new control feature for our Comdata Mastercard® Corporate Fleet Card customers: Pay-at-the-Pump Limits. With this Enhanced Authorization Control feature, Comdata now has the ability to enforce the true limits on a cardholder’s account during an MCC 5542 (automated fuel dispenser) transaction. Using Pay-at-the-Pump Limits, Comdata can match the dollar amount we authorize at the pump to each cardholder’s exact minimum available balance.
This enhanced feature is being made available to all Comdata Mastercard Corporate Fleet Card accounts. It will require no changes for most customers. Customers should review and may need to adjust their accounts to appropriate card transaction limits. (See question seven below.)
See the questions and answers below for more details on Pay-at-the-Pump Limits.
Comdata developed this feature in response to frequent customer requests for enhanced controlled spending for pay-at-the-pump transactions.
If you are a Comdata Mastercard Corporate Fleet Card customer, you will see the value of this new feature in two ways:
- Fewer declines at the pump. Previously, a uniform preauthorization hold amount determined if a cardholder was approved at the pump along with the approved fueling amount. The Pay-at-the-Pump Limits feature supersedes the preauthorization hold amount at participating merchants, allowing the cardholder to fuel up to their actual minimum available balance.
- Less over purchasing. Previously, if a cardholder had a minimum available balance above the uniform preauthorization hold amount, their card would be approved for unrestricted purchases. With Pay-at-the-Pump Limits, the pump will shut off when their actual minimum available balance is reached.
This new feature only applies to our Comdata Mastercard Corporate Fleet Cards.
Currently, approximately 80% (soon to be 90%) of merchants support the process, and Comdata is working to increase this percentage. We are also working on a process to report participating merchants.
Yes. Only transactions with an MCC of 5542 (automated fuel dispensers) will fall under the new process. Purchases inside convenience stores fall under MCC 5541 and are not affected by the pay-at-the-pump limits.
Comdata will authorize based on the lowest available amount within the tiered limits recorded in
the card profile. For limits other than the transaction limit (e.g., the daily or cycle limits), Comdata
will base the lowest available amount on the current limit minus the current usage due (or current
balance due for account-level limits).
Non-participating merchants will process transactions using the authorization rules that Comdata has used in the past.
For most customers, there will be no setup involved in using the new limits. Comdata is deploying
this new feature on a system-wide basis, and the new limits will apply to any Mastercard
cardholder making a pay-at-the-pump purchase at a participating merchant.
If you as a customer have not applied realistic transaction limits to your account in the past,
Comdata may contact you to adjust your card profiles. If you have problems or concerns with the
new pay-at-the-pump limits, please contact your Comdata Customer Relations Representative
